Moin Geos,
es gibt Neuigkeiten zum Umzug, wenn auch vorerst nur bzgl. Geo-Bibliothek. Die Geo-Bibliothek zieht gemeinsam mit der Kartensammlung und den Bibliotheken der anderen Fachbereiche ins MIN-Forum (Neubau auf der anderen Seite der Bundesstraße).

Geplante Eröffnung der neuen MIN-Bibliothek: Beginn des Sommersemesters 2026
In der Zwischenzeit wird es nicht möglich sein, Bücher auszuleihen, oder die Bibliothek als Arbeitsort zu nutzen.
Immerhin: Bücher, die zwischen Montag dem 12.01. und Freitag dem 23.01. ausgeliehen werden, müssen erst nach dem Umzug, also im April, zurückgegeben werden. Während die Bibliothek geschlossen ist, können aber auch keine Bücher früher zurückgegeben werden. Bedenkt dies bei der Ausleihe, falls ihr im April nicht in Hamburg sein solltet.

there is news about the move, although for now it only concerns the Geo Library. The Geo Library will be moving to the MIN Forum (new building on the other side of the Bundesstraße) together with the map collection and the libraries of the other departments.

Planned opening of the new MIN Library: beginning of the 2026 summer semester

In the meantime, it will not be possible to borrow books or use the library as a place to work.
However, books borrowed between Monday, January 12, and Friday, January 23, do not have to be returned until after the move, i.e., in April. While the library is closed, books cannot be returned early. Please keep this in mind when borrowing books if you will not be in Hamburg in April.

Hallo Geos und ein besonderes Hallo an Geos mit Stadtplanung im Ergänzungsfach (und die die es noch wählen wollen).

Stadtplanung im Ergänzungsfach ist super interessant, aber leider nicht immer ganz einfach. Jedes Semester muss man sich neu an der HCU einschreiben lassen und bangen, dass es in den vier Kursen auf dem Wahlzettel noch Restplätze geben wird.
Die Herausforderungen dieses Ergänzungsfachs sind in der Geographie bekannt und wurden schon oft besprochen. Bisher haben sich die Studienbedingungen allerdings nicht verbessert.
Daher gibt es nun eine neue Initiative „Geos an der HCU“, die sich für das Thema einsetzt. Wir versuchen insbesondere das Gespräch mit der HCU aufzunehmen. Besonders wichtig ist es uns, dass die Kurswahl und Platzvergabe, sowie die Beschränkung auf vier Semester angepasst werden. Langfristig wünschen wir uns eine echte Kooperation zwischen den beiden Studiengängen.

Hello Geos, and a special hello to Geos with urban planning as a Minor at the HCU (and those who still want to choose it).

Urban planning as a minor is super interesting, but unfortunately not always easy. Every semester, you have to re-register at HCU and worry that there will still be places available in the four courses on the ballot.
The challenges of this minor are well known in geography and have been discussed many times. However, the study conditions have not improved so far.
That is why there is now a new initiative called “Geos at HCU” that is addressing this issue. In particular, we are trying to initiate a dialogue with HCU. It is particularly important to us that the course selection and allocation of places, as well as the restriction to four semesters, are adjusted. In the long term, we would like to see genuine cooperation between the two degree programs.

In der Geographie stellt sich die Raumfrage. Ab dem Sommersemester 2026 soll die Lehre im MIN-Forum stattfinden. Im Anschluss soll dann auch der Umzug der Büros etc. aus dem Geomatikum ins Haus der Erde (HdE) folgen. Die Informationslage zum Umzug ist bisher sehr dürftig. Abgesehen davon, dass das HdE aufgrund verschiedener Pannen und Peinlichkeiten im Bauprozess mehrere Jahre später fertig werden wird als ursprünglich geplant und auch deutlich teurer wurde bzw. wird, ist noch recht wenig über die Rahmenbedingungen des Umzugs sowie der Raumplanung im HdE bekannt.

Es zeichnet sich allerdings ab, dass im HdE massiv an studentischen Frei- und Arbeitsräumen gespart werden soll. Auch die angedachte Trennung von Lehre (MIN-Forum) und Büros sowie FSR-Räumen (HdE) sehen wir kritisch.

Wir rufen daher alle Studierenden auf, zur Infoveranstaltung am Montag den 10.11.2025 zu kommen um sich 1. selbst aus erster Hand ein Bild der Lage zu verschaffen und 2. den Verantwortlichen zu signalisieren, dass wir Studierende für unsere Interessen eintreten und nicht einfach übergangen werden können!

In geography, the question of space arises. Starting in the summer semester of 2026, teaching will take place in the MIN-Forum. This will be followed by the move of offices, etc., from the Geomatikum to the “Haus der Erde” (HdE). The information available on the move is very scarce at this point. Apart from the fact that, due to various mishaps in the construction process, the construction of the HdE will be completed several years later than originally planned and has also become significantly more expensive, very little is known about the general conditions of the move and the room planning in the HdE.

However, it is becoming apparent that there are plans to make massive cuts to student common rooms and study spaces in the HdE. We are also sceptical of the planned separation of teaching (MIN-Forum) and offices as well as FSR-rooms (HdE).

We therefore call on all students to join us at the information event on Monday, November 10, 2025, in order to 1. get a first-hand impression of the situation and 2. signal to those responsible that we students stand up for our interests and cannot be ignored!
