Einladung zum Queer- Treff

Liebe Geos,
ein paar Leute aus der Meteorologie und Ozeanographie haben in den
letzten Wochen einen Queer-Treff geplant, bei dem alle queeren
Studierenden (und allies natürlich) der Erdsystemwissenschaften
willkommen sind. Sie planen Spieleabende, Filmabende und kreative
Aktivitäten und ihr seid natürlich auch eingeladen!!
Der erste Termin ist der 15.10.2025, 18-21 Uhr Raum 1528 im
Geomatikum.

A few folks from Meteorology and Oceanography have been organising a queer meet-up over the past few weeks, where all queer students (and allies, of course) from Earth System Sciences are welcome. They’re planning game nights, movie nights, and creative activities and y’all are invited !!
The first event will be on 15 October 2025, 6–9 pm in Room 1528 at the Geomatikum.

Geo- Wanderung zum Semesterstart!

Der FSR lädt dich herzlich zu einer Tageswanderung am Fr. 03.10.2025 ein !
Die Vorlesungsfreie Zeit neigt sich langsam dem Ende und wir freuen uns, euch bald alle im Geomatikum wiederzusehen. Weil wir es kaum abwarten können, möchten wir gerne alle Geos einladen, mit uns eine kleine Wanderung von knapp 16 km am Fr. 03.10.2025 (Feiertag, daher frei) im Hamburger Umland zu machen.

Wohin gehts?: Einmal quer durch den Wohldorfer Wald
Wann & Wo? Fr. 03.10.2025 um 10 Uhr an der U-Bahn Station Ohlstedt
Bitte beachtet die abweichenden ÖPNV Möglichkeiten aufgrund des SEVs

Sonstiges:
Wanderschuhe sind nicht nötig, Trittfestes Schuhwerk ist aber von uns empfohlen; Getränke, Snacks/Essen bringt jeder nach Bedarf und Lust selbst mit. Als Geos kennen wir natürlich auch kein schlechtes Wetter sondern nur schlechte Kleidung!
Wir freuen uns sehr euch alle wiederzusehen!

The semester break is almost over, and we’re keen to catch up with you all before classes kick off again. To make the most of the long weekend, we’re heading out for a 16 km hike through the Hamburg countryside (Wohldorfer Forest) and would love for you to join us!

(Just a heads-up: check alternative public transport options due to bus replacements.)

You don’t need heavy hiking boots, but sturdy shoes are a good idea. Pack your own food and drinks for the day. Whatever keeps you going.
And remember, we as Geos don’t believe in bad weather, only bad clothing

Moria Six (2024)
Die Dokumentation beleuchtet den Prozess gegen sechs minderjährige Geflüchtete, die für den Brand im Lager Moria verurteilt wurden. Über den Briefwechsel mit einem der Verurteilten entsteht ein eindrückliches Bild europäischer Flüchtlings- und Abschottungspolitik und ihrer Konsequenzen.

Saatgut – Seed: The Untold Story (2016)

Abstract:

Amid rising living costs and growing housing precarity among students, profit-oriented purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA), has emerged in many university cities, turning student housing into an alternative asset class. Based on semi-structured interviews and document analysis, this research investigates the growth of PBSA in Germany, unpacking its networks, business models, spatial strategies and narrative framings. Adopting a relational-comparative approach, the study examines the political-economic conditions that enable and sustain this niche asset class and its broader implications for the socio-spatial relations of student housing, urban governance and higher education.

Banner malen& grillen gegen Kürzungen

auf der Vollversammlung wurde besprochen, dass wir bzgl. der Kürzungen mehr Öffentlichkeit schaffen müssen, und dass wir uns untereinander besser vernetzen wollen.
In diesem Sinne wollen wir uns kommenden Dienstag (15.07.) um 18 Uhr im Schanzenpark treffen.
Wir schmeißen den Grill an und wollen in geselliger Runde gemeinsam Banner malen, mit denen wir dann in Zukunft besser auf unsere Lage aufmerksam machen können.🖌️📢
Also sagt euren Kommiliton*innen Bescheid und kommt vorbei!

Dear Geos,
at the general assembly we discussed that we need to create more public awareness regarding the funding cuts and that us students should connect more with each other.
To do that we want to meet up next tuesday (15.07.) at 6pm at Schanzenpark.
We’ll fire up the grill, and want to collectively paint some banners, which we can use in the future to spread awareness about our situation.🖌️📢

Sommerfeier Geographie

Liebe Geos, (englisch version below)

die Geographische Gesellschaft in Hamburg, das Institut für Geographie und der Fachschaftsrat Geographie laden euch herzlich zum Sommerfest der Geographie mit feierlicher Verabschiedung der Absolvent:innen am Donnerstag, den 3. Juli, ein.

Los geht’s um 18 Uhr mit der Absolvent:innenfeier im Hörsaal 22/23 des ZMAW (Bundesstraße 53). Eingeladen sind alle aktuellen und ehemaligen Geographie-Studierenden – wir freuen uns auf ein Wiedersehen!

Im Anschluss an den Umtrunk lädt euch der Fachschaftsrat zum Sommerfest unter freiem Himmel auf dem ZMAW-Gelände ein. Gegen Spende gibt es kühle Getränke, Brezeln und Wassereis. Für Wein bringt bitte eine eigene Tasse mit.

Musikalisch begleitet wird der Abend von den „Broyges Tanten“ – Live-Musik inklusive!

Wir freuen uns auf einen schönen gemeinsamen Semesterabschluss mit euch!

we invite you to the Geography Summer Party with a festive farewell for our graduates on July 3rd.
We’ll kick things off at 6 PM with the graduation ceremony in Lecture Hall 22/23 at ZMAW (Bundesstraße 53). All current and former Geography students are welcome – we’re stoked to see familiar and new faces!
After a celebratory toast, we’ll head outside for the open-air summer party on the ZMAW grounds. There’ll be cold drinks, pretzels, and popsicles available for a small donation. If you’r keen for wine, don’t forget to bring your own cup!
The evening will be accompanied by live music from the „Broyges Tanten“ so get ready for a fun night!
We’re looking forward to celebrating the end of the semester together with you!

Dear Geos,
next Thursday, 19 June, there will be a geocinema showing the documentary movie “ Bei uns heißt sie Hanka“ (here she is called Hanka). It is about Sorbian identity today. Sorbs are a small Slavic minority in Lusatia (located in Poland and Germany). The director Grit Lemke has Sorbian roots herself and discovers Sorbian culture which is endangered after a long time of oppression.

Vollversammlung der Geographie am 23.06.2025, 18:00 Uhr, H5

Liebe Geos! Wir sind an einem Punkt angekommen, an dem die Kürzungspolitik an der Uni Hamburg die Lehre und den Betrieb hier am Institut massiv beeinträchtigt. Das darf uns nicht egal sein! Die Qualität unserer Ausbildung leidet unter den konstanten Kürzungen und auch die Arbeitsbedingungen der Mitarbeitenden hier am Institut verschlechtern sich immer weiter. Zudem wurde eine Umstrukturierung des Fachbereichs angestoßen, mit dem Zweck, die Institute aufzulösen, „Synergien zu schaffen“ und damit weitere Kürzungen zu ermöglichen. Das birgt das Risiko, dass wir Möglichkeiten zur Mitbestimmung verlieren und weniger Einfluss auf Studienbedingungen und Lehre haben. Auch der Umzug ins Haus der Erde rückt in immer weitere Ferne, vor 2026 wird das Gebäude nicht eröffnet. Außerdem sind viele Detailfragen zum Umzug noch ungeklärt.
Es ist Zeit, aktiv zu werden!

Wir laden euch ein zur Vollversammlung der Geographie am 23.06. um 18 Uhr in H5, um die Lage zu besprechen und nach Möglichkeiten zu suchen, für gute Studienbedingungen einzustehen!

We’ve hit a point where ongoing budget cuts at Uni Hamburg are seriously messing with teaching and day-to-day life at our institute and we can’t just let that slide.
The quality of our education is taking a hit, and working conditions for staff are getting worse. On top of that, there’s a major faculty restructure in the works. The plan? Break up the institutes, „create synergies,“ and make more cuts possible. That could mean we lose our say in how things are run, less student input, less influence on our learning conditions. And the move to the „Haus der Erde“? That’s been pushed back again. It won’t happen before 2026, and heaps of details are still up in the air.
Time to speak up and get involved!

We’re inviting you to the Geography General Assembly on June 23rd at 6 PM in H5, where we’ll talk about what’s going on and look at what we can do to stand up for decent study conditions.
