Die Universität Hamburg ist bereits seit Jahren strukturell unterfinanziert. Das aktuelle Haushaltsloch beträgt über 22 Mio. € und wird nach aktuellen Rechnungen bis 2032 auf über 60 Mio. € anwachsen. Um dieses Loch zu stopfen plant die Uni-Leitung einen sog. „Strukturprozess“ – es soll an allen Ecken und Enden gespart werden. Der MIN-Fakultät stehen bis 2032 Kürzungen ihres Budgets von ca. 24 % bevor.
Schon heute spüren wir die ersten Auswirkungen der Kürzungen: Überlastete Beschäftigte, schlechtere Betreuung, sinkende Qualität der Lehre, Streichung von Studentischen Hilfskraft-Stellen, wegfallende Tutorien, weniger Auswahl an Lehrveranstaltungen, und und und. Wie die Arbeits- und Studienbedingungen auch bei uns in der Geographie erst bei um ¼ kleinerem Budget aussehen sollen, mag sich niemand vorstellen.
Doch noch ist der „Strukturprozess“ nicht umgesetzt und noch hat der Senat der Stadt Hamburg den Haushalt 2027/2028 nicht beschlossen. Noch lassen sich die Kürzungen also verhindern!
Deshalb gehen wir am 11.06.2026 als gesamte Universität geschlossen auf die Straße:
Gegen die Kürzungspolitik des Senats und den sog. „Strukturprozess“ bei uns an der Uni!
Für die bedarfsgerechte Ausfinanzierung der Hamburger Hochschulen!
Für gute Arbeits- und Studienbedingungen!
Da es die MIN-Fakultät besonders hart treffen soll, ist es auch besonders wichtig, dass wir uns nicht nur uniweit, sondern auch bei uns an der Fakultät konkret gegen den „Strukturprozess“ wehren. In diesem Sinne starten wir den Protesttag am 11.06.2026 auch bei uns vor der Haustür: Wir treffen uns gemeinsam mit den anderen Fachbereichen und Instituten aus der MIN-Fakultät um 13:00 Uhr vor dem MIN-Forum. Von dort wollen wir als Zubringerdemo gemeinsam zum Hauptcampus ziehen, wo dann um 14:00 Uhr die uniweite Großdemo startet.
Nach den Demos wollen wir dann den Tag noch gemeinsam ausklingen lassen. Wir treffen uns dazu in geselliger Runde ab 17:00 Uhr in der Kartensammlung (Geomatikum, Raum 931).

Demonstration Against Underfunding of the University
June 11, 2026, 1:00 p.m., MIN-Forum (Bundesstraße 56a)
The University of Hamburg has been structurally underfunded for years. The current budget shortfall exceeds €22 million and, according to current projections, will grow to over €60 million by 2032. To plug this hole, the university administration is planning a so-called “restructuring process”—cost-cutting measures are to be implemented across the board. The MIN Faculty faces budget cuts of approximately 24% by 2032.
We are already feeling the first effects of the cuts today: overworked staff, poorer student support, declining teaching quality, elimination of student assistant positions, cancellation of tutorials, fewer course options, and so on. No one wants to imagine what working and study conditions will look like here in Geography with a budget reduced by a quarter.
But the “restructuring process” has not yet been implemented, and the Hamburg Senate has not yet approved the 2027/2028 budget. So the cuts can still be prevented!
That is why, on June 11, 2026, the entire university will take to the streets in solidarity:
Against the Senate’s austerity policies and the so-called “restructuring process” here at our university!
For adequate funding for Hamburg’s universities!
For good working and study conditions!
Since the MIN Faculty is expected to be hit particularly hard, it is especially important that we take concrete action against the “restructuring process” not only across the university but also right here in our own faculty. With this in mind, we’ll kick off the day of protest on June 11, 2026, right here on our doorstep: We’ll meet up with the other departments and institutes from the MIN Faculty at 1:00 PM in front of the MIN Forum. From there, we’ll march together as a feeder demonstration to the main campus, where the university-wide mass demonstration will begin at 2:00 PM.
After the demonstrations, we’ll wrap up the day together. We’ll gather for a social get-together starting at 5:00 PM in the Map Collection (Geomatikum, Room 931).
